In England, houses are often joined to each other. When you have a house on each side of your own house, you live in a terraced house.
If you live in a house where only one side of your house joins another house, you live in a semi-detached house.
If you live in a house which is not joined to any other houses, you live in a detached house.

Here are 2 photos of some terraced houses, in a suburb of Birmingham. Birmingham is about a 2 hour car drive from London.




Here are 2 photos of a detached house in Leicester. Leicester is a town 45 minutes by car from Birmingham.
